Barkly Region First Aid Course: Frequently Asked Questions

1. Which course is best for remote work in Barkly Region?

While HLTAID011 Provide First Aid is the standard for most workplaces, those working on cattle stations, as rangers, or in remote communities often choose HLTAID013 Provide First Aid in remote and isolated sites.

  • First Aid Course: Standard workplace first aid.
  • Remote First Aid Training: Advanced training for when medical help is more than a few hours away (includes "Remote Area" specific protocols).

2. Can the trainer come to our station or community?

Yes. Redpath Education specializes in traveling to you. We provide the educator, laptops, projectors, and all clinical training equipment. For remote Barkly bookings, the host (client) typically provides:

  • Accommodation: A secure, air-conditioned room for the training safety training.
  • Meals: Catering for the trainer and learners during the course.
  • Training Space: A room with enough floor space (3m² per person) for CPR scenarios and a power point for equipment.

3. What do participants need to have ready?

To ensure the session runs smoothly in areas where reception can be spotty:

  • Student Portal Access: Please ensure all learners have their login details and have completed any pre-course theory before the trainer arrives.
  • Smartphone: Needed for the digital assessment and QR code attendance.
  • Appropriate Clothing: The Barkly gets hot, but training involves floor work. Wear modest, comfortable clothing (trousers or long shorts) and sturdy shoes.

4. What are the physical requirements?

Regardless of location, the national standard is strict: every participant must perform 2 minutes of continuous CPR on a manikin placed on the floor.

  • If a learner has a physical limitation (e.g., bad knees), they must still meet this floor-based requirement to be deemed competent.
  • Attendance: Learners must attend the full session. In a remote setting, unscheduled breaks for station work or personal errands will result in an "unsatisfactory" result.

5. How do we get our First Aid certificates?

Certificates are issued digitally through Allens Training Pty Ltd (RTO 90909). Once the practical is finished and the online assessment is marked, certificates are usually available the same day. This is vital for Barkly workers who need immediate compliance for high-risk work.

6. Is there support for cultural safety?

Yes. For community-based training, we request a local staff member be present to manage learner personal needs and cultural safety. Our trainers are experienced in remote Aboriginal communities and understand the unique environment of the Northern Territory.
