Redpath Education provides HLTAID011 Provide First Aid training throughout the Central Desert Region, supporting workers, community members, and organisations with practical, accessible emergency care skills.

This first aid course gives you the confidence to perform CPR, respond to injuries, and manage medical emergencies. Training can be delivered on-site or in community settings across the region.

Entry Requirements Participants must be able to meet the physical demands of providing CPR, including performing CPR on the floor, applying both breaths and compressions.

Also be capable of working with a partner in on/off-floor scenarios.

Participants must possess functional written and spoken English skills to make accurate verbal reports in class, replicating the process of reporting to emergency services and workplace supervisors.

Online Study (If Applicable): Students must have access to a computer, smartphone, tablet, or other electronic devices with a current browser and internet access.

First Aid Course Delivery

This course can be delivered/assessed in the workplace or at facility organised by the training provider.

+ Course Durations

Course durations can vary for multiple reasons, so the durations below are the minimum possible amount.

  • Online with face-to-face assessment (with pre-course online study + in-class electronic assessment) face to face contact time of at least 6 Hours

    • If you are familiar with using computers and online training and assessment. Select this “Online with face to face assessment” course

  • Face-to-Face Face to Face contact time of at least 12 Hours (2 days)

    • If you are unfamiliar with using computers and online training and assessment. Select this “face to face” course.

    • The theory + First Aid Incident Report is delivered face to face (multiple choice delivered verbally, with the learner marking answer in writing), during the course. Hence if learners would have difficulty completing a pre-course on-line assessment, or who’s learning style is more kinaesthetic or practical focused, this modality better suits these learners, and is the preferred modality when we deliver training on community.

Participants will need the ability to meet the physical demands of providing CPR, you must perform CPR on the floor, applying both breaths and compressions, as well as working with a partner with on/off-floor scenario's.  Participants must possess functional written and spoken English skills to make accurate verbal reports in-class, to replicate reporting to emergency services and workplace supervisor

Online study (if applicable):  Students must have access to a computer, smartphone, tablet or other electronic devices with a current browser, as well as access to the internet and skills sufficient to follow a video learning program, to complete the on-line pre-course work, as well as assessments in-class.

Individuals undertaking this course will be expected to complete both written and practical assessment tasks.

+ Assessment Activities

Performance tasks and practical scenarios:

  • Perform CPR on an adult (incl. the use of an AED and placing a casualty into the recovery position)

  • Perform CPR on an infant

    • CPR assessment requires candidates to perform at least two (2) minutes of single rescuer uninterrupted CPR on an adult resuscitation manikin placed on the floor and an infant resuscitation manikin placed on a firm surface.  In a scenario, participants will also work in a small team to demonstrate a rotation of operators with minimal interruptions to compression's, while applying an AED during an emergency CPR scenario, on an adult resuscitation manikin placed on the floor.  In a scenario, participants will also manage an unconscious casualty including appropriate positioning to reduce the risk of airway compromise, manually assess vital signs, and provide an accurate verbal report of the incident.

  • Complete a first aid incident report form based on the simulated first aid scenario

  • Manage a casualty with anaphylaxis

  • Manage a casualty with asthma

  • Manage a choking casualty

  • Manage a casualty with non-life-threatening bleeding and shock, requiring minor wound cleaning

  • Manage a casualty with a nosebleed

  • Manage a casualty with a fracture and dislocation

  • Manage a casualty with a sprain and strain

  • Manage a casualty with envenomation (snake/ funnel-web spider bite)

First Aid Course Central Desert Region: Frequently Asked Questions

1. Which course is best for remote work in Barkly Region?

While HLTAID011 Provide First Aid is the standard for most workplaces, those working on cattle stations, as rangers, or in remote communities often choose HLTAID013 Provide First Aid in remote and isolated sites.

  • First Aid Course: Standard workplace first aid.
  • Remote First Aid Training: Advanced training for when medical help is more than a few hours away (includes "Remote Area" specific protocols).

2. How do we set up the training in the Central Desert Region?

Redpath Education is mobile, but to deliver HLTAID011 Provide First Aid successfully in Central Desert communities, the host must provide:

  • A Climate-Controlled Room: An air-conditioned space is essential for learner concentration and to protect the medical manikins.
  • Floor Space: We require approximately 3m² of clear floor space per learner for practical CPR scenarios.
  • Power & Facilities: Access to a 10amp power point (standard plug) and nearby toilets/water for participants.

3. What do participants need for the digital assessment?

To complete the HLTAID011 Provide First Aid assessment, every learner must bring:

  • A Smartphone with Internet: You will need this to scan QR codes for attendance and to log into your student portal.
  • Portal Credentials: Please ensure you have your username and password ready before class starts.
  • Focus: To meet the "Adult Learning Environment" standards, we ask that personal distractions be managed away from the training area.

4. Are there mandatory physical requirements?

Yes. To be found competent in HLTAID011 Provide First Aid, there are strict national requirements that cannot be waived:

  • CPR on the Floor: You must perform at least 2 minutes of continuous CPR on an adult manikin placed on the floor.
  • Attendance: You must attend the full course hours. Taking unscheduled time away (for personal business or unscheduled smoke breaks) may result in an "unsatisfactory" result.

5. What should I wear for the training?

Since the First Aid course involves floor work, bending, and rolling, participants should wear:

  • Modest, Comfortable Clothing: Trousers or long shorts are highly recommended to maintain modesty and safety during practical drills.
  • Sturdy Shoes: Closed-toe shoes are best for safety during scenarios.

6. How long is the First Aid certificate valid?

  • The HLTAID011 Provide First Aid certificate is valid for 3 years.
  • However, the CPR component (HLTAID009) must be refreshed every 12 months to stay compliant with Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines.

7. Is the First Aid Course in the Central Desert Region nationally recognised?

Yes. All training for HLTAID011 Provide First Aid is delivered by Redpath Education on behalf of Allens Training Pty Ltd (RTO 90909). Your Statement of Attainment is a nationally recognized document and is typically issued the same day you complete the course.
