First Aid Courses in NPY Lands: Frequently Asked Questions

1. Which course is best for remote work in the NPY Lands?

While HLTAID011 Provide First Aid is the standard for most workplaces, those working on cattle stations, as rangers, or in remote communities often choose HLTAID013 Provide First Aid in remote and isolated sites. The first aid course provides the essential foundation for workplace compliance, while the remote first aid course adds advanced protocols for when medical help is several hours away.

2. What are the host requirements for training in the NPY Lands?

For Redpath Education to deliver the first aid course training on-site, the hosting organization (e.g., Council or Health Service) must provide:

  • Climate Control: A secure, air-conditioned training room.
  • Space for Practical Drills: At least 3m² of clear floor space per learner to perform CPR scenarios.
  • Power & Setup: Access to a 10amp power point (GPO) and two tables for trainer and course kits.
  • Ablutions & Refreshments: Access to toilets and cold water/tea/coffee for learners throughout the day.
  • Local Support: A staff member to manage cultural safety, participant attendance, and transport to the training room.

3. What do participants need to bring?

To successfully complete the HLTAID011 Provide First Aid assessment, learners must bring:

  • Smartphone with Internet: This is required to scan QR codes for attendance and to access the student portal for assessments.
  • Portal Login: Have your username and password ready. We recommend completing the online theory components before the trainer arrives in the community.
  • Appropriate Clothing: Participants must wear modest, comfortable clothing (such as trousers) that allows them to bend, kneel, and perform floor-based CPR.

4. Are there mandatory physical requirements?

Yes. Under National RTO standards for HLTAID011 Provide First Aid, every learner must perform at least 2 minutes of continuous CPR on an adult manikin placed on the floor.

  • This is a non-negotiable requirement for the Statement of Attainment.
  • Learners must attend the full course hours; leaving for unscheduled personal time or non-training activities will result in an unsatisfactory result.

5. How is the training delivered?

We offer two main delivery modes for the first aid course:

  • Blended Mode: Online theory + a 6-hour face-to-face practical session (most popular for busy community staff).
  • Face-to-Face: 12 hours delivered over 2 days (ideal for groups who prefer trainer-led theory).

6. When is the certificate issued?

Once you have successfully completed the practical and the digital assessments for the first aid course, your certificate is typically issued the same day. Training is delivered on behalf of Allens Training Pty Ltd (RTO 90909), ensuring your qualification is recognized in the NT, SA, and WA.

7. How long does the qualification last?

  • The HLTAID011 Provide First Aid certificate is valid for 3 years.
  • The CPR component, HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation, requires a refresher every 12 months per Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines.
