On Behalf of Nationally Recognised Training (RTO Partner: Allens Training Pty Ltd 90909)

HLTAID013 Provide First Aid in remote or isolated site is a nationally recognised training for people who may need to provide first aid in remote locations where medical assistance is likely to be delayed.

In Alice Springs and Central Australia, remote first aid is not a niche course. It fits the real conditions many workers already face: heat, long road travel, remote-community visits, station work, mine sites, tourism routes, limited communications and delayed retrieval.

Redpath Education delivers practical remote first aid training Alice Springs learners can connect to real Central Australian work. The course is especially relevant for community workers, remote health and outreach teams, station hands, field officers, mine site workers, rangers, tour guides and crews travelling across remote communities, the Stuart Highway, the MacDonnell Ranges / Tjoritja and regional roads.

A key difference in Central Australia is that the first aider may need to manage the scene for longer, communicate clearly from limited-access locations, support evacuation planning and provide care with limited resources until emergency services arrive or evacuation occurs.

Through Redpath Education, training is delivered in partnership with Allens Training Pty Ltd RTO 90909.

Nationally Recognised Training for Remote or Isolated Sites

HLTAID013 is the unit of competency for first aid in remote or isolated site settings.

The unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to an ill or injured casualty in remote locations, isolated locations or a remote area over an extended period.

For Central Australia, this may mean a community visit, pastoral station, mine site, road crew, school excursion, tourism route, land management job, field program or remote project where help is likely to be delayed.

A first aider may need to follow appropriate first aid procedures, manage first aid activities, provide extended care, prepare equipment, monitor the casualty and support handover for aeromedical evacuation or ambulance care.

What the Remote Area First Aid Course Covers

This area first aid course may cover:

  • Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines and ARC guidelines

  • assessing an ill or injured casualty

  • contacting emergency services

  • giving clear location details

  • checking first aid kits

  • prepare equipment for remote response

  • basic triage and first aid response

  • comprehensive first aid treatments for bleeding, shock, fractures, sprains and strains

  • envenomation, including snake or funnel-web spider bite

  • asthma, anaphylaxis and choking

  • hypothermia, hyperthermia and dehydration

  • head, neck and spinal injuries

  • non-life-threatening bleeding and shock

  • planning and equipment checklist

  • contingency planning, self care and debriefing

  • aid treatments to aeromedical evacuation and casualty handover

Guidelines determined by the Australian Resuscitation Council help shape CPR and resuscitation practice in Australian first aid training.

Real Central Australia Remote First Aid Scenarios

Remote first aid can help save lives when help is not close.

A Central Australian team may need remote area first aid during a remote-community visit, heat stress on a fieldwork day, a station hand injury, a mine site incident, a tourism incident on a remote route, a ranger injury on Country, a school camp outside Alice Springs or a road incident along a long regional route.

In these situations, the first aider may need to monitor the casualty for longer, control bleeding, reduce movement after a suspected spinal injury, manage heat exposure, share GPS or landmark details, and prepare for evacuation.

Trainer tip: In Central Australia, communication can be as important as treatment. Learners should practise giving clear updates about the casualty, location, access point, weather, time of incident and treatments already provided.
